Men’s violence has always been unleashed against religious representations: iconoclasts, conquistadors, revolutionaries … By choosing Buddha as the subject of this work, Richard Orlinski evokes in particular the destruction of the Buddhas of Bâmyân by the Taliban. In resolutely contemporary materials and colors, the artist creates an icon that advocates freedom and the diversity of religions in the 21st century.
